Safe Waters Campaign:
Building a Fleet for the Future

Put-in-Bay Community Swim & Sail Program’s 2025 Capital Campaign

For over 75 years, the Put-in-Bay Community Swim & Sail Program has been a cornerstone of our community, teaching swimming, sailing, and water safety to participants of all ages. We’ve built confidence, developed lifelong skills, and inspired a passion for the water—both recreationally and competitively.

As we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, safety remains our top priority. That’s why we’re launching the Safe Waters Campaign, a $50,000 capital initiative to upgrade and maintain a fleet that supports not just safety boats but the overall safety of our programs and participants.

CAMPAIGN FOCUS

Safety First. New RIB safety boats are at the heart of this campaign, funds raised will also support a comprehensive safety initiative that ensures the long-term success of our current and future program offerings.

Immediate Boat Purchase Goals:

  • Highfield CL380 FCT (12’6”, 30HP with trailer) – Upgraded motor for improved performance in classes.

  • Highfield CL420 FCT (13’10”, 50HP with trailer) – Supports classes and regattas.

  • Highfield 16ft - 19ft RIB – Replacement for "Betty" 16ft, 90HP

Additional Goals:

  • Training for instructors and staff to ensure best safety practices

  • Fleet maintenance and upkeep to sustain program longevity

  • Upgrades, maintenance, or additions to our fleet of 420s, Optis, and Lasers

  • Future purchases to support the Adventure Sail class

WHY NOW?

Our safety boats are essential to our program, but aging equipment and rising maintenance costs have made day-to-day operations more challenging. In 2024, we took a significant step by purchasing a new Highfield RIB and selling the outdated safety boat fleet to help fund this next phase. Thanks to the efforts of our Board Advisory member, Brian Kezur, we also secured a $20,000 ODNR grant—but we still have a goal to raise an additional $50,000 throughout 2025 to round out our fleet and maintain the highest standards for the program.

The Safe Waters Campaign is an investment in the future, ensuring that every swimmer and sailor can continue to learn, grow, and explore safely. With the support of our community, we are confident in delivering another great season while working toward our long-term goals.
